The Hand Warmer Project
Project Description - This project challenged us to create a prototype had warmer that increased the temperature by around 20 degrees Celsius, as quickly possible, with a volume of about 50 ml, with little cost, and with environmentally safe materials. We had to use previous knowledge over breaking and forming bonds between salts and water or by our own research. Breaking bonds releases energy and forming bonds absorbs energy. So we had to focus on thew best way to break bonds in a solution. However our specific hand warmer deviates from this completely, many others (almost all) did theirs this way. We outlined all of the requirements in our power Google Slides presentation below.
Reflection - I thought that this project was fun and challenging; however, it was too long: way too long. I mean we worked on this project forever. 12 weeks on one project that really could've taken two under serious productivity. I didn't feel like we learned zilch for this project besides one lab and some polyatomic ions, so I hope we can learn more or during a project to focus on more than just a project. Anyways, two things my group and I did well was saying determined and overachieving for more than just a bag with some saltwater. Two things we could've improved on was cooperation and equally distributing the work; I felt like I basically did the whole project, which bothers me. It was a cool project though.
